The Church in Davis, Solomon Leung

The experience I gained in the church in Davis has benefited me in several ways—¯in my practical service for the church and especially in my spiritual pursuit and growth. I have been meeting with the local church in Davis since childhood and many brothers and sisters have seen me grow up from elementary school to graduating from the university in this city. These brothers and sisters have been like an extended family to me. They have cared for my personal and spiritual growth with the Lord, praying for me both during good times and in troublesome situations that come with growing up as a teenager. They encouraged me to attend retreats to “pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart” (2 Timothy 2:22).

As I was growing up, the church members had a great influence on my character, strengthening me by giving me (and others) responsibilities in the church meetings. For example, passing the bread and wine to all the members during the Lord's table meeting, serving with the children's meeting on Sunday and with cleaning of the meeting hall. There is a real sense of family between all of the members, from the youngest to the oldest, with all taking a personal interest in each other's condition. To see and experience the love of Christ expressed through them has also influenced me and my love for Christ and for His church. Like the brothers who have shepherded me, I also have followed in their shepherding footsteps to care for the younger ones just as they have cared for me when they were my age. I want these younger ones to also have an example of someone close to their age who loves the Lord and helps them to exercise their spirit that Christ would grow in each one of them.

May your love for the Lord be deeper today than yesterday.
